Definition of Strain Gauge

Sensor measuring the mechanical stress applied on the material in the form of strain, which is transferred via special glue/adhesive on the strain gauge mounted on the material's surface. The strain gauge represents a resistive grid, which changes resistivity with the applied strain and measures the direction of the force creating the strain. The additional electrical circuit, containing more strain gauges (3+), is necessary to make the strain gauge thermally independent.
