What Is Activation Temperature Range?
The activation temperature range defines the temperature interval over which martensitic and austenitic phase transformations occur in a Shape memory alloys (SMAs). This range determines when an SMA actuator can be activated and deactivated and therefore sets its operational temperature limits.
Within the activation temperature range, the material transitions between the martensite and austenite phases, enabling shape recovery, force generation, and actuation. Outside this range, actuation performance is reduced or unavailable.
Importance of Activation Temperature Range in Actuators
Accurate control of the activation temperature range is essential for designing reliable SMA actuators, particularly in applications exposed to variable environmental temperatures or requiring precise thermal actuation, such as aerospace, medical devices, and industrial automation.
