RVactuators Launched DeepTech Project on Heusler Alloy Microwire Actuators

RVactuators officially kicked off a new R&D project titled “SMART actuators based on Heusler alloy microwires.” The project is supported under Application Call III – DEEP TECH within the Technology and Applications for Competitiveness Operational Programme funded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic CZ.

The project is being implemented in Dolní Břežany, with RVactuators, s.r.o. acting as the lead partner in collaboration with FZU - Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Brain4Industry, initiated by Prof. Dr. Rastislav Varga, founder of RVactuators, the leading scientist in the field, whose long-term research vision laid the foundation for this initiative.

Project Goals: Advancing Smart Actuator Technology

The main objective of the project is to advance smart actuator technologies through the development of advanced functional materials. In particular, it focuses on the manufacturing of single-crystalline Heusler alloy microwires using the Taylor-Ulitovsky method and on the development of a functional Heusler alloy microwire prototype for applications exploiting the shape memory effect. By combining deep-tech research with scalable manufacturing approaches, the project aims to translate cutting-edge materials science into real industrial applications.

Three Development Phases of the DeepTech Project

The project launched by RVactuators is structured into three consecutive development phases.

Phase 1 (2026): Thermally Activated Actuators

The first phase (2026) focuses on thermally activated actuators, validating fundamental actuation performance, repeatability, and operation across a wide temperature range.

Phase 2 (2027): Electrically Activated Actuators

The second phase (2027) advances the technology toward actuators activated by electric current, enabling more precise and efficient control through Joule heating and improved system integration.

Phase 3 (2027-2028): Magnetically Activated Actuators

The final phase (2027-2028) targets magnetically field-activated actuators, introducing contactless actuation concepts with faster response and enhanced reliability for demanding and space-constrained applications.
